How We Met

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

We met for the first time in December 2004. Jason came home from UC Santa Cruz to visit during winter break and Amy was enjoying some free time of her own after playing her last season of college soccer at CSUSB. Thanks to mutual friends, Amy and Jason both had plans to go surfing on a Saturday morning. Our story is far from "love at first sight" but we believe that it is the perfect picture of, "good things come to those who wait." Over the years we did things together with mutual friends. We both travel the world and had plans to continue to do so after returning home for a little while. It wasn't until 2009 that our paths would change forever. We went out for sushi together, just as friends (no, seriously) and we had a great time. Amy was much more surprised about this than Jason was. Neither one wanted to make a big deal out of things but went to dinner and hand drinks together on several more occasions. It was during these conversations that we realized how many times our paths had crossed. As kids we played soccer for the same club and practiced on the same field two days a week, we had a bunch of mutual friends, and we both went to the Claremont Club as kids and swear we spent time in childcare together while our mom's went to jazzercise class. One spring day Amy was having a BBQ at her parent's house (umm sorry about that M&D). Jason was there and while Amy was busy on the grill, he casually said, "I think we should date." While Amy had every excuse why that was a terrible idea, Jason remained persistent. Not to be discouraged after Amy had her doubts and turned this idea down, Jason told Amy, "jump in, the water's fine." After a little more convincing from Jason, Amy went ahead a jumped. It's hard to believe that was 9 years ago. We have filled these years with adventures, traveling and buying a house together. I guess it's finally safe to say, Jason was right!
