The year was 2015. Two new Aggies were selected to be in a Freshman Leadership Organization called Aggie Fish Club or AFC. Those two young Aggies (Ray and Sam) first met while waiting in line to get tickets for an Aggie Football game. They quickly connected over the fact that they both swam in high school, but they also quickly disconnected when Ray seemed more interested in how fast Sam's times were. Later in 2016, Sam and Ray went on a 'Lunch Buddy Date' that would be their first real interaction together. Ray was really taken aback by Sam's down-to-earthiness and Sam was impressed with Ray's charm. The 'date' was a success, but that would be the extent of their interactions during their freshman year. In their sophomore year, Ray and Sam were both selected to be counselors for the next group of freshmen in AFC. More specifically, they were assigned as partners for the Red Buddy Huddle Group, where they would essentially be Mom & Dad for a lucky group of 8 freshmen. Ray and Sam had a very successful year as partners where they learned how to work together, improved their friendship, and grew their chemistry. In March of 2017, after a year of one-sided flirting from Ray, he finally asked Sam out on a first date. Unequipped with a vehicle, he had to borrow his roommate's car to pick Sam up for their picnic in the park. On April 19th, Ray asked Sam to be his girlfriend with a bouquet of sunflowers, and Sam joyfully said Yes. One yes down, one more to go. Over the next few years, their love and bond only grew through the multitude of adventures together. Ray and Sam graduated from A&M, moved in together, lived through the pandemic together in Kingwood, moved back to Austin, coached swim team together, and traveled all over the country. On June 14th, 2024, 7 years after their first date, Sam and Ray recreated their first date with another Jimmy John's picnic at Zilker Park. Both as nervous as they were on their very first date, Ray proposed and Sam again joyfully said Yes. Two for two! On June 14th, 2025, Ray and Sam will say yes to each other for the final time as they commit in holy matrimony! We can't wait to celebrate with you all!
