Marcy was born in Michigan. She has two associates degrees; one in library science and liberal arts. She also has a Bachelors in Arts majoring in English with a minor in creative writing. Marcy currently works in a public library and law library. As is obvious with the humanities degrees she has an obsession with books. Old books, new books, collections, novels, fantasy, science fiction, graphic novels she loves them all (except mystery she oddly hates mystery). Her collection is in the eight hundred range. She admits that she might have a problem. Ray says there is no problem. That may be one of the reasons they are together.
Ray was born in Missouri and has lived in 2 other states before finally coming to Michigan. He is a teacher with Homeschool Connections and a consummate nerd. He has many interests that he tries to convey to his students from mathematics and science, to outdoor survival and game strategy. He also seems to have an urge to collect board and video games. His board game collection is in the 300s and he holds more than 500 games in his steam library. This might be one of the reasons Marcy has seen fit to give him her attention. Ray has a degree in Electrical Engineering but prefers being a teacher. He is also an Eagle Scout and former lifeguard. Ray loves many different books and has a very extensive Fantasy and Sci-Fi collection. He spends his summer break creating the curriculum for the classes he teaches.
Marcy and Ray met at the Michigan Renaissance fair through mutual friends. They continued to hang out in the same gaming group together for five years. Quietly trying to spend more and more time alone with each other outside of group days, until they learned about each other's feelings on a particularly good date at an aquarium followed with Chinese food.
I had known Marcy for several years at this point. We had a wonderful friendship but I was hoping there could be something more to it. We went to the Sealife exhibit at Great Lakes Crossing. It was wonderful but nervewracking at the same time. Later after dinner, I told Marcy how much I loved her and asked if she felt the same way about me. Fortunately, she did.
On August 24th, Ray's birthday, the two took a drive down to Chicago. The plan was to celebrate the end of summer with a penguin encounter at the Shed Aquarium. Chicago was beautiful and the Shed Aquarium even more so. Marcy wanted to see all the things and Ray was anxious to make the encounter on time. To which Marcy read as "Boy, the man is really excited to meet a penguin" and nothing else. Then the encounter began. There were twelve people in the room total plus one trainer and one land-based bird. The bird in question was an adorable Magellanic penguin named Georgia. She was small. She was sleek. She was chill, so chill she was falling asleep surrounding by twelve strange people. The trainer talked about her eating habits, let people pet her (in case you were wondering penguin feathers feel like cat fur), and the trainer talked about mating habits. She explained that penguins mate for life and then she showed the group the penguin egg. An egg that contained a ring that Ray proposed with. Marcy doesn't remember much of the encounter after that. Bliss does that to a mind, but there were pictures.
