Guadalajara is as safe as any large city. Tourist areas are great and are safe but be mindful. With any metropolitan city, be mindful of your surroundings. The biggest issue is stolen phones. Do not stand on a corner with your cellphone out waiting for your uber. Motorcyclist or bicyclist (often in teams of two with a female) have been know to snatch your phone as they drive by.
