How We Met

A story about the reconciliation and redemption work God can do within the hearts of two willing people

This is a story of the power of God and the incredible reconciliation and redemption work that He can do in someone’s life. Ravon and Stephanie meet in 2016 after an introduction made by her wonderful sister Melissa. However, during this season of their lives these two youngsters were at two very different spectrums of life; Ravon lived in New Jersey and Stephanie in Connecticut. Their union seemed improbable for many reasons but mainly because of family, work and location! Quite frankly, these two were not even really interested in each other, but God surely had another plan. Roughly a year or two later, God brought Stephanie to New Jersey to be closer to her family and Ravon and Stephanie crossed paths again. Every time Nick and Mel would have a family function, they would always invite Ravon. During these moments, they began developing a solid friendship and Godly affection towards one another. Stephanie truly enjoyed that aspect of their friendship… but there was something more she saw in Ravon. In 2018, during a worship night Stephanie was at a point of her life where she was so closely connected to the Lord. He was her everything. And she had arrived at a true place of peace and contentment. God became more than everything in her heart, He became enough. During that night, there was an altar call and Stephanie decided to stay in her seat and speak with the Lord, not knowing her answered prayer would be sitting next her praying with and for her; Ravon.

The Proposal

#thisismarriage

There are moments in our life that shape and mold us. Intimate moments, that can only be described with a smile and sometimes a tear. The marriage conference holds a very special place in Ravon and Stephanie’s heart. Not merely because it was the place that he proposed but because it was also the place where God spoke so deeply to Ravon’s heart. But in order to understand the depth of this story we must take you back to 2019. During this time, Stephanie had the great honor of helping her sister and brother in law coordinate a marriage conference for their church. This meant a great deal to Stephanie, as she saw herself as an ambassador and advocate for Marriage. She believed she was investing in the next generation of Godly marriages as she took on this responsibility with pride. So when asked to build a team of volunteers, immediately she thought of Ravon. Broken marriages were themes in Ravon and Stephanie’s tapestries of life. They were threads that make up parts of their life experiences and examples of the restoration God has done in their lives. But that’s another story for another time. Let’s fast forward to the part where they were holding hands, for the first time, as friends serving alongside each other. It was during this time, that Ravon felt Stephanie’s heartbeat and he knew then that the Lord was speaking to his heart and giving him the permission to pursue Stephanie beyond a friendship. So when Ravon was planning the engagement, he couldn’t imagine a better time then the very next year, February 2020 as they were serving the conference once again together, this time as boyfriend and girlfriend.
