Our love story began in the most unlikely of places: a barn. I had just finished riding and was about to do my nightly routine of caring for the animals when I saw him. He was standing at the entrance of the barn, waiting for something. It turned out that he had scheduled a trail ride, and Jan had forgotten about it. Jan asked me if I wanted to go on a trail ride, and, of course, I said yes. She told me to put up the horse I just rode and to tack up two other horses. I did what I was told, and she then informed me that I was to take John on a trail ride. She proceeded to draw a “map” on the whiteboard and told me that was the trail; I had never been on the trails before. With Bo and Little Man all tacked up, an idea of where to go, and an eager John in tow, we were off on our trail ride. Mind you, I didn’t know him or the trail, and he was a beginning rider, so I was nervous, to say the least. But everything went well for the most part, Bo had somehow worked his bit out of his mouth, and John had to “save the day.” Once our ride came to an end, I told him about a horse we had for sale, and if he was interested, he could lease her out. I honestly didn’t think he would be interested since he was a beginner. John showed up a month later riding that horse I had mentioned to him, and the rest is history.
