How We Met

Technically the two met online… even though they were already neighbors. They matched on a dating app and quickly realized they lived less than a mile apart. But when Brian shared his apartment number, the truth came out: he lived just a few doors down. Amanda immediately decided this was far too close for comfort and chose not to share her own apartment number. What followed were months of occasional texting, polite distance, and quietly passing each other in the hallway without ever officially meeting. And then came The Chair Incident. Amanda had bought a new sofa chair, crammed it into the back of her Fiat, and—using the same questionable method she used for groceries—decided the fastest way to get it inside was to toss it over her balcony railing. Unsurprisingly, the plan fell apart immediately, and the chair got hopelessly wedged into the bushes below. Defeated, she called the only person she technically “knew” in the building: Brian, the Tinder neighbor she had never actually met. Brian showed up right away, freed the chair, and the two finally said hello in person—laughing at the ridiculousness of the moment. Chair rescued, introductions made, they went on with their lives. A few months later, they found themselves texting again… this time about being out of wine. Brian suggested they go grab a bottle together, and after some hesitation, Amanda agreed. What was meant to be a quick wine run turned into hours of conversation over a bottle of red. From that night on, they were inseparable.
