FAQs

Question

Do I need a visa to visit Sri Lanka?

Answer

Most visitors do, including Aussies! You can easily apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) at eta.gov.lk. It’s quick, takes only a few minutes, and usually gets approved within a day.

Question

What should I wear to the wedding?

Answer

For the Hindu ceremony, traditional or formal. Ladies, sarees or long dresses in bright colours is perfect. Gents, a veshti, kurta, or suit works just right. For the reception, it’s your moment to go all out - formal, festive, and fabulous. Ladies, sarees or gowns; gents, suits or tuxes. Sri Lankan weddings are basically our version of the Met Gala. Everyone’s secretly trying to outdo each other, so bring your A-game. And if an aunty approves, you know you have done it right.

Question

Can someone help me look fabulous for the wedding?

Answer

Yes! If you want your saree draped perfectly or your makeup done like a Sri Lankan superstar, we have teamed up with Romesh at Capello. Book him directly on whatsapp +94 77 695 0134 and mention “Rashmika and Vishnu’s wedding.” Prepare to look flawless. We take no responsibility for the number of compliments you receive.

Question

Is there anything I should know about the Hindu ceremony?

Answer

It’s beautiful, meaningful, and comes with fire, blessings, and possibly a confused uncle giving instructions no one asked for. Just follow the crowd and enjoy it.

Question

What’s the best way to get around?

Answer

Tuk-tuks are your best bet for convenience, they know every shortcut in Colombo’s traffic. For an easy, faster, and more comfortable option, download PickMe or Uber.

Question

Is the food spicy?

Answer

Yes… and no! Sri Lankan food can be fiery, but you will also find milder dishes everywhere. Don’t leave without trying hoppers, kottu roti, Lamprais, Pol Sambol, Isso wade or a good rice and curry. And if you spot Lion Lager or a King Coconut, say yes.

Question

Do you recommend a tour organiser?

Answer

Yes! If you want a stress-free Sri Lanka experience (and to avoid getting lost because Google Maps sometimes forgets we’re an island), we have partnered with George Steuart Travels. They can organise airport pickups, full island tours, hotel bookings, and everything in between. Visit the Travel tab on our website for their information.
