He was living in Concord, Nebraska and I was living in Eagle Pass, Texas. You could say that if it were not for technology our lives would not have crossed paths. I'm so thankful to the Lord they did. We met online. I was looking to connect with someone during a very low point in my life. Little did I know I would meet my fiance! His sense of humor caught my attention (cue him saying "of course"). At first we just texted each other, but quickly we began talking on the phone. We became good friends and I knew he was someone special. Dennis flew to my home state so we could meet for the first time in San Antonio, Texas. He captured my heart.
This specific summer I decided to volunteer at a Summer Bible Camp called Camp Assurance for about a week. Dennis basically grew up here as a camper and then as a leader and I wanted to get to know this place which impacted his life and spiritual journey in such a deep way. I traveled from Texas to Nebraska to spend a week there. Friday came and Dennis was visiting during a meal break. Camp was about to conclude for the week and the campers were heading to a chapel for a last meeting. We didn't join the campers until later that day. Dennis had something planned! After our meal together I noticed Dennis acting funny like something was wrong. He was sitting by himself in a campfire area under some trees. He loves a crowd so I thought he was feeling ill and I started getting worried. Our eyes met and he invited me to come sit with him. He then suggested we go on a short walk. He led me to an area with more trees next to a gazebo. Before I knew it, he turned around, got on his knee and asked me to marry him! Happiness turned into laughter and I said yes! Guess what. He had been pretending to be ill the whole time! We still talk about this specific detail of our engagement day because I was so worried and I still have a not-so-secret grudge on him. Nonetheless, it was a perfect day.
