Burgers and fries at Brewer's Art in Baltimore. We still bring home a six-pack of their "Resurrection" beer every time we're in town.
On one of our first few dates, Blake cooked dinner at Laura's apartment—chicken and green beans. Laura still has a secret photo she snapped of him prepping in the tiny kitchen!
In our early years living in NYC, we would spend weekends wandering around the West Village, hopping from one coffee shop to the next. Blake had (and still has) such a discerning way of enjoying coffee, while Laura, a novice coffee drinker, often found herself absolutely buzzing on caffeine by the end of the day.
Laura: Blake is one of the most thorough deliberators I have ever met. He puts just as much time and energy into researching something life-changing as he does picking out a mechanical pencil. It’s incredible to witness. Blake: When you see Laura next, ask her to say, "Meow Wolf hung a painting of a grey wolf eating blueberries out of a bowl," and see if you can understand it.
The best parts: discovering cities we never expected to love, the spontaneity during all our free time, living unencumbered by 'things,' and getting to know each other all over again in a new way of life. The worst parts: questionable Airbnb decor choices, and sometimes spotty Wi-Fi.
Laura still uses the GPS to drive to the grocery store.
Laura! But she never dances solo for long, and Layla always joins in with her signature 'happy paws' dance.
In 2019, Blake was headed on a trip to London. Just before boarding, he realized he didn’t have his passport—it was sitting back in his Gramercy apartment. Blake called Laura in a panic, intending to vent about having to postpone his trip. Laura, who was cooking dinner in her Brooklyn apartment, dropped everything, hopped in an Uber to Blake’s place in Manhattan, grabbed his passport, and rushed it out to him at JFK in time for him to catch the very next flight.
Blake: Laura doesn’t even have to say the jokes aloud.
Laura wanted to refurbish a pair of Adirondack chairs she found on Facebook Marketplace for $10. Turns out, the chairs dated back to 1952, and the wood was rotting. Nevertheless, she persevered, spending nearly thirty hours trying to resurrect these fine antiques. After one five-hour Saturday spent sanding with zero progress, she finally admitted defeat.
Blake’s proposal. It was sunrise. Gorgeous wildflowers were everywhere, leaving Laura in sensory overload while Blake brewed coffee and anxiously waited for his moment. It was perfect.
