My friend had been trying to talk me into going to a Friday night Bible study at Parkway Baptist Church. Even though I had wanted to, I was really busy with a lot going on and said it just wouldn't work. When I finally agreed to go my second semester of Junior year, my friends and I filed into seats, and I sat next to this really nice guy who was extremely easy to talk to!:) It turns out he was the Parkway college intern and a pretty amazing man who loves Christ and who I can't wait to marry!
I had told Brent I loved dressing up, and he suggested we go to dinner with two friends on a Friday night in early October (at a very casual but delicious restaurant that was about 40 minutes away) and dress up just for fun! That sounded like a blast, and I was up for it! When the night came, and weather looked a little foreboding, I asked if we should just cancel going out that far to the restaurant, and he assured me it would be fine; we could still go! We drove through a torrential downpour to Wyndall's Steakhouse, talked and laughed with our two friends (who knew what was going to happen but were pros at being completely cool and acting like everything was normal) as we enjoyed dinner. We then started heading back to MC, and Brent asked me if his hair looked okay. So this should've been a flag something was going on because he normally doesn't ever ask about his hair, much less if it's raining and dark. I just laughed, said I couldn't see really well but thought so. We drove back toward campus, and Brent asked if I wanted to hang out just a little longer at the Clinton visitor center where we normally would go sit in the rocking chairs and talk. I said sure, but was thinking it was a little wet for that. Right before we got there, I noticed Brent's hand was cold- odd, since normally my hands are the ones that are cold. I said something about it, and he didn't really reply. Still, it went over my head, and I didn't think much else of it. When we got there, all the normal lights in front of the center had turned off and there was man with his back to us, taking pictures of a plant in the dark. Weird, I thought, but I am one of those art students who has looked crazy trying to complete art assignments, so again, nothing was making me suspicious. We got out of the car walked toward the the only lights, which we security lights. Brent then proposed as his uncle (the plant photographer) who was so sweet to wait there in the rain captured it... and I said YES!
