How we Met

Lauren and Andrew initially met in 2018, just a few weeks after Andrew moved to Austin. They started getting to know each other, but life happened and they went their separate ways. A few years later in 2021, Lauren thought she saw Andrew at a popular Austin pizza joint. She was thinking of him and decided to reach out. Andrew was surprised to hear from Lauren, but luckily he responded. Unbeknownst to Lauren at the time, Andrew had moved back to Wisconsin during the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite this, they continued talking daily for the next few months. Eventually Andrew decided to go visit Austin and see Lauren again. When Andrew visited Austin in the Spring of 2022, they immediately fell for each other. Despite their fears of the distance between them, Andrew and Lauren not only kept in touch, but they were calling each other every day. Andrew never intended to move back to Texas, so to persuade him, Lauren sent Andrew a "fun fact" about Texas every day. After dating long-distance for 6 months, and 317 days of Texas fun facts later, Andrew finally moved back to Austin! Lauren even made Andrew a book of all the Texas fun facts she sent him as a welcome back gift.

The Engagement

Lauren and Andrew made a tradition of going to Big Bend National Park for New Years. It quickly became a special place to them. On their third annual trip to the park, they decided to do some tent camping at one of the more primitive sites. Neither of them were sure they would make it to this site, as it was on an unpaved road. It took 2 hours from the main road in their small crossover SUV, but they finally made it! After walking around and setting up the tent, they made their dinners. They then climbed up on some rocks to eat and watch the sun set over the Chisos Mountains. Andrew pointed to a small valley and told Lauren that he thought he saw an animal moving there. Lauren went to look and as she was turning around to tell Andrew that she was pretty sure that those were shrubs, Andrew had the ring out and asked her to marry him. Of course, Lauren immediately said yes!
