Into The Unknown

#GarlandCaughtSalmon

On June 28, 2002, I arrived at Philadelphia International Airport to vacation in Jamaica and participate in a wedding ceremony. I accompanied several cousins and their friends. Other than a brief trip to Canada, I had not traveled anywhere else outside of North America. I didn't know what to expect, but I was extremely excited because I was doing my own thing and I had a feeling that something special was going to happen. The flight across the Caribbean Sea was extraordinary. Never in my life had I seen a body of water go from clear blue to dark blue, and then to clear crystal green. We arrived in Montego Bay, in the early afternoon (A Friday). As I got off the plane, I was enveloped by the warm culture of reggae music and refreshing beverages. Wow! That feeling was something that I had never experienced. I knew then, that I was in for a special treat. We were greeted by a Beaches Grand Sports representative. He quickly took my luggage and escorted me to the JUTA transportation bus. Our ride from the airport to the Beaches Grande Sport Hotel in Ocho Rios was over two hours, but again I felt something big was brewing. The ride took us through many towns and highways along the coastline. It was amazing to see so many people out in the streets doing everyday activities. I began to sense the strong connection the people had with each other. I said to myself, “I want to be part of this strong interaction”. When we arrived at the hotel, I realized that all of my cousins and friends were booked in standard rooms further away from the main attractions of the hotel, however, my room was situated in the upscaled area of the hotel, which allowed me to venture out on my own. The scenery from my hotel room was spectacular. I could view all the exterior guest activities including golfing, swimming pools with restaurants, tennis courts, live entertainment, etc. I then decided to explore the entire hotel. The beauty of the female staff sent my brain into overdrive. As I ventured further outward, I stumbled into the casino area, and I was greeted by the most gorgeous, beautiful creature God ever created. She was the casino’s representative/cashier. I was mesmerized! I finally decided to approach her. I struck up a conversation with her, and the ease I felt talking to her and listening to her beautiful Jamaican accent was indescribable. Her intellect, professionalism, and witty sense of humor were out of this world. I was in awe! I wanted to prolong my time with her, so I invited her up to my room. She gave me a quick emphatic "noooooooo". In that moment I realized that I was standing directly in front of my wife and the mother of my future children. She was surrounded by friends, co-workers, and guests, but it felt like It was just me and her in that room. The scenario replayed itself several times in my head the next day and the day after. On day three I decided that I needed to get her undivided attention, so I pretended to be upset and angrily stormed out of the casino.. She stopped everything she was doing and rushed over to inquire about my well-being. Her sincere concern reaffirmed what I already knew in my heart. This lady will be my wife! My cousins, their friends, and I were all supposed to leave on Monday, but I decided to stay an additional day. Unbeknownst to me Monday was her day off. I prayed that she would show up the Tuesday before my departure so that I could see her beauty once more. God answered my prayers. She returned to work the next day and wished me a safe trip home. We had already exchanged our information. I told her that I would be contacting her as soon as I returned to the States. After visiting and dating for four years, we got engaged in August 2005, and tied the knot on June 24, 2006. God Blessed our union with two beautiful, amazing daughters and life has never been the same.
