In January 2017, Raiza, originally from Southern California, moves to Fort Kent, Maine, USA to attend Nursing School At University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK). Remi originally from Caraquet, New Brunswick, Canada, moves to Grand Falls, New Brunswick, for his new job. By November 2017 both happened to be on Tinder, the popular social media app that sends potential matches to people based on location. If these two had not both moved from their hometowns at the same time, this important match would not have happened. Raiza eventually swiped right on Remi’s profile, not just based on his looks, but mostly due to his name being the same as the famous rat character from her favorite animated Disney movie, Ratatouille. Remi followed and swiped right on Raiza soon after and the two were made a “match”. The two started messaging and talking to each other over the phone everyday from then over winter, since Raiza had gone home to California for a month over Christmas break. Fort Kent and Grand Falls were only about 45 minutes apart, separated by the US-Canada border. So when Raiza came back to Fort Kent , the two decided to meet for their first date in Edmundston, Canada, the half way point between both their towns. It was a snowy day on January 24, 2018 when they met in person for the first time over dinner at Canadian chain restaurant Boston Pizza. Afterwards, they would watch a movie together ~ Howl’s Moving Castle since they both shared common interests in Anime and Miyazaki films. And that was just the beginning. January 24, 2021, after 3 years of dating, and in the middle of a snowy day at the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two decided to elope with just two witnesses; Remi’s close friend and coworker at the time Miguel, and Remi’s first cousin Francis. They had a small ceremony at their lawyer’s backyard, and got takeout at KFC, Raiza’s forever favorite food and fried chicken, paired with the couple’s favorite White Chocolate Raspberry cake from Atlantic Superstore. No other loved ones could be with the couple at that time due to strict Covid lockdowns. It was a very relaxing, intimate day filled with love - and some cute masked wedding photos fitting for the time. The following years, the couple would go through some struggles of being Long Distance at times due to on and off US-Canada border closure with strict exemptions. Eventually, after almost 2 years of waiting for immigration to come through, Remi’s US green card finally arrived and the two could finally officially live together permanently in November 2023. Fast forward to the present, the couple now reside in Irvine, California, with their little fur pupper Mika. They have not experienced a true church wedding and reception, and are very excited to have all their loved ones present this time. The official wedding date will be on Saturday, January 23, 2027 just one day before the couple’s 6th Wedding elopement anniversary, and they are excited to see you all on that special day.
