In 2017, after graduating from college, Rahul and Emily made the decision to pursue a gap year before applying to medical school. As fate would have it, they both decided to take a research position at the NIH and despite not knowing each other, took a leap of faith to move from Chicago, IL to Bethesda, MD. Although Emily doesn't remember it, Emily and Rahul first met at an NIH Post-bacc party in December of 2017. Their interaction was brief. Rahul and Kenneth (groomsman) were playing a friendly game of alcoholic beverage pong against two friends. The ball suddenly was knocked off the table and who grabbed it? That's right, Emily. She picked the ball up and refused to give it back for a moment, much to Kenneth's chagrin. Eventually, she gave the ball back and that was that. Months later, Rahul and Emily's friends/roommates at the time began to see each other and quickly the two friend groups combined. By March of 2018, Emily and Rahul were talking and texting on a regular basis (yes, Emily actually responded to texts from Rahul). Emily decided to make the first move in April, by asking Rahul out to an informal coffee date at the NIH coffee shop and the rest was history. Their first formal, non-NIH date was at a speakeasy Emily discovered called the Smith in Washington DC. From there, Rahul and Emily were "official" and continued their journey together. The journey itself took them through six different states, graduating medical school, adopting two cats, and now grinding through residency. Their journey has been a rollercoaster of twists and turns and they are so excited to share their special day with all of their closest friends and family.
