Wedding Plans Update

Still getting married, but postponing the party.

In light of this year's health pandemic, we made the decision to postpone the celebration of our wedding until October 9, 2021. We are still planning to get married this year on our original date, but it will be a very small ceremony with immediate family and our bridal party. It breaks our hearts that we cannot be with every one of you this year, and this was a difficult decision to make. But we feel this is for the best - we can't wait to share in the celebration and dance the night away with everyone next year!

How We Met

Rae and Gabe first met in Memphis during the winter of 2013 after a performance of MacBeth at the Evergreen Theatre, in which Gabe was acting the part of Prince Malcolm. Rae's parents had been working with Gabe on another show at the time, so when her dad came to support Gabe in this production, she decided to tag along. Both Rae and Gabe played hard to get that night and this story almost ended before it began. But as luck would have it, Rae lived in one of the high-end, elegant apartment buildings that Gabe managed, and so their paths crossed again when Rae came in to pay her rent. They built a rapport around the multitude of maintenance issues that Rae lived with on a daily basis, but refused to report to management because of her two fugitive cats. He managed to convince her that Paul the maintenance guy wouldn’t care about the cats, and so before long Rae was able to turn the lights on in her kitchen again. Rae came to see Gabe in two more plays - one of them twice - and carried on a conversation about asparagus much longer than was appropriate just to have a reason to talk with him. When Rae was walking out of the theater one night, she looked back over her shoulder and smiled at Gabe, and the deal, as they say, was sealed. It wasn’t long before they agreed to go on a real, live date with one another. They ate Mexican food and watched Germantown Community Theatre’s production of Twelfth Night set in a trailer park. On their second date they stayed up until 4am talking and playing with cats. Many dates later, when the warm weather came, they would read His Dark Materials out loud to each other on a picnic blanket at Overton Park.

Creating Memories

In 2015 Rae and Gabe started building a life together when they moved into an apartment in Cooper Young. Their love grew over the years as they did theater together, learned to cook with one another, and built a community of friends who also loved playing board games late into the night. Their travels have taken them to Chicago, Detroit, South Carolina, North Carolina, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, New Jersey, London, Dublin, Germany (unintentionally), and more. And on one very special trip, to Presque Isle in Northern Michigan, while on a hike along the banks of Lake Huron, they agreed to keep adventuring through life together forever. And they cannot wait to celebrate with their families and friends this October.
