In August of 2016 my brother told me that a mutual co-worker of ours had joined some sort of travel thing and wanted him to join. He said "no but talk to my sister she might be interested". I was in California for about a month but still living in Applegate Oregon. I met up with my old co-worker and 3 kids I used to go to high school with were there too. They showed me this travel club and I said sure why not, sign me up I love to travel! Little did I know that in that moment would set the course to meet the love of my life. I got added to a Facebook Group for the club and was welcomed by a handsome guy named David Waller. "Welcome to the team!"... We chatted online and called and texted for about 2 years on and off. Sharing our vision for the world and what we intended to do with our lives. We kept trying to meet up but it never would seem to be the right timing. I'd be in San Luis Obispo on my way out of town as he would post a photo of himself in the San Luis Obispo airport just arriving, timing like that! Fast forward to October 15th 2017, while David was living in Washington still, he came down to California for a birthday month of traveling around and visiting friends. He messaged me, "Hey I'm coming to LA are you still there?" And I was! At the time I was living in an apartment in Franklin Village in Hollywood, and was excited to finally meet this man I had been talking to. This was a fairly interesting time in my life when I was traveling back and forth to Africa alot. But I was home and ready! It was one of those cheesy moments. He showed up on my doorstep with his backpack and "JOY" hat. I knew I was in for it. We've been together ever since.
We had been invited by Timbrel Pechan (our ANGEL mama from LA) to go to a leadership training course that we had no idea would dramatically change our entire lives. We drove down to Los Angeles having no idea what to expect out of this 5-day intensive and interactive experience with about 200 other individuals. On Sunday night of the course, graduation night, November 11th 2018.... families were crying and laughing and the room was filled with joy. David and I had written letters to one another. We stood on the stage but no one noticed, I read my letter through teary eyes talking about love and commitment and family. He started to read his letter, but Janet Cano's little daughter in her adorable red dress tugged on his sleeve silently with that look of "you have to play with me!" So he did. He chased her around the stage and played. In that moment I saw myself in that little girl, and how every single day in every single way David is always bringing out my inner true child-like self, my authentic self. Now totally bawling as he walks back to me I smile through tears as he starts to read his letter. At the end... he asked as he got down on one knee. It was one of those moments where when I saw it in the movies where the girl kind of like chokes back tears and laughs and takes a minute to respond I always thought it was cheesy until I tried to speak in that moment and could barely get out the "Yes". He lept up and grabbed my waist turning to the crown and screamed at the top of his lungs: "SHE SAID YEEEEEESSS!!!" Everyone cheered and we left that night on a cloud.
