How We Met

A Decade in the Making

For us, timing wasn't a straight line- it was more like a decade long game of hide and seek. I guess you could say we were the ultimate Facebook friends for ten years: we walked the same school hallways and stood in the same crowds, yet stayed total strangers. We were completely unaware that God was creating the extended edition version of our love story. He waited to bring us together until we had both walked through the fire of life’s trials. Only when we stopped trying to control the narrative were we ready to find rest in each other’s grace. Even then, He ensured our first date was a comedy of errors. It all started on a Monday night. I couldn't wait to take her to watch one of my favorite local bands, but for some reason they weren’t on the schedule. We were stuck with a replacement band, but it didn't matter. We spent the entire night laughing and enjoying each others company. Now, from time to time, we return to that same spot on Mondays to cherish where it all began. That “failed” first date turned into years of adventure chasing bands, exploring spring heads all to ourselves, and proving we probably shouldn’t choose the intermediate courses when we snowboard together. I knew she wasn’t going to marry some chump, so I took her to the top of the rainforest in Puerto Rico and asked her to be my Bride. God’s timing was always perfect… we just took the scenic route along the way. We weren't ready for each other ten years ago, but we are more than ready now. We couldn’t be more grateful to be blending our worlds and building our family on this beautiful adventure.
