We met in 2011. Sarah had some mutual friends with Michael's roommates, and they invited her over for a pregame party before crushing the strip in Broad Ripple. Michael introduced himself as Jordan. Later, Michael asked Sarah out on a date and took her to what used to be Brugge restaurant. Neither of us had any idea what to order because the menu was in freaking French and we were too embarrassed to Google it. It got even more awkward when the food was delivered and neither of us had any idea how to even eat it. We pushed our food around our plates and managed to make some small talk, until we looked up to realize we were the last people in the restaurant. The two closing servers were standing against the wall staring at us to hurry and finish. Awkward! We got back to Michael's, where Sarah had left her car... Well, what you're thinking happened didn't happen because Sarah went home and Michael went to the friend zone.
Fast forward to the end of 2014. We stayed in contact socially since we had met, pregaming and going out to the strip, but gradually lost touch that year. So, neither of us knew we were both planning to move to Phoenix just one month apart from each other. We later discovered this the only natural way, through Facebook. Each eager to see a familiar face after months of new surroundings, we met for drinks in Tempe. It was the best evening. Nothing awkward. Just two old friends. We continued to hang out regularly that summer and decided to be roommates by the end of 2015.
Ok we'll be honest, it didn't take us long to start "dating" each other after we moved in together. This went on for some time, until one day we drove up to Prescott. Far enough north to escape the heat, we sat outside on the second story terrace of Jersey Lilly Saloon and smashed some cheeseburgers. After, we took a walk around the town square and eventually found ourselves sitting on the steps of the courthouse. Michael looked at Sarah like a can of biscuits was about to bust and asked "will you be my girlfriend?"
The Storybook Version: Michael took Sarah to Apple Annie’s Orchard in Willcox, AZ to go pumpkin picking. After finding our favorite pumpkin picks, we took a walk around the apple trees. Michael suddenly got down on one knee and simply asked Sarah to marry him. After she said yes, he replied “now I’ve definitely picked the best one.” The REAL story: So we arrive to the orchard with some friends, and realize the pumpkins are at a second location. If he proposed now, there was a chance Sarah would lose the ring, so Michael quickly thought of an excuse to go and come back to the orchard. Good call. Sarah proceeded to go nuts not just picking pumpkins, but filled a whole wheelbarrow with produce. It got hot, we ran out of water, someone threw up and we realized we had skipped lunch. Sarah is now DONE. Somehow, like he always does, Michael said something cute and coaxed her to the apple grove. Then, Michael suddenly got down on one knee and simply asked Sarah to marry him.
