We are getting married at Canopy Creek Farm in Miamisburg, OH! It’s absolutely beautiful.
We’re working super closely with CCF and our caterers to make sure it’s a safe, happy, accommodating environment for everyone. The people in our lives matter way more to us than any specific detail about an event. If you’re worried about anything please let Rachna and/or Eli know and we’ll make sure to accommodate! We’re going to have: 1. A quiet area (sensory overload, fatigue, etc.) 2. On venue transit (mobility issues, etc.) 3. None of the following ingredients anywhere: Wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, coconut
We are doing a joint Punjabi*-American-Hindu-Jewish wedding! *Rachna’s family is from Punjab, a state in India. We will be following some Indian traditions. If the tradition varies by region, we will be following the Punjabi regional tradition*
Fun! Formal! Bright colors! We would for everyone to wear Indian formal clothing! *Indian tradition: The celebratory and auspicious nature of a wedding should be matched by the attire. It’s a time to come together with those you love and enjoy an incredible milestone*
There’s so many places! 1. Go to an Indian clothing store near you and ask 2. There’s tons of Indian fashion information on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok etc. 3. We’ve put together a couple resources that we think are helpful! Basics of Indian Fashion: https://growingupgupta.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-indian-clothing/ Indian wedding guest: https://www.theknot.com/content/what-to-wear-indian-wedding https://aaykafashion.com/blogs/news/what-to-wear-to-a-punjabi-wedding-as-a-guest Indo-Western Fusion: https://www.pure-elegance.com/blogs/indian-american-celebrations/fusion-fashion-ideas?ref=fireamp
Please do NOT wear red. This would be like showing up to an American wedding in a white ball gown. *Indian tradition: Red is worn by the couple being married. Rachna and Eli will both be wearing red*
You could wear white, but it is a funeral color in Indian tradition. It would be a bit depressing for such a celebratory event. Off-white colors like beige or champagne are just fine though!
Absolutely! Eli, a 7th generation Coloradan, will be wearing Indian clothing. While Rachna loved growing up in the western world, she is saddened by the lack of opportunities to share her culture with her non-Indian friends. Both Rachna and Eli would love if you partook in this with us. Thank you in advance!
There’s lots of places! 1. Look for Indian clothing stores near you 2. Etsy has a lot of small shops and designers making Indian clothes 3. There’s tons of stores online! Here are a few which offer US shipping at varying price points: Kalki Fashion - http://www.kalkifashion.com/ Trendia Global - https://trendia.co/ Mirraw - https://m.mirraw.com/ Utsav Fashion - https://www.utsavfashion.com/ CBazaar - https://www.cbazaar.com/
While we would love it if everyone wore Indian clothes, we don't want it to be a barrier to anyone coming to celebrate with us. If you are not able to get Indian clothes, festive American formalwear will be just fine. Bright colors and fun patterns encouraged!
