She said YES!
When my car lease was ending, I walked into Mercedes-Benz simply looking for a new car. My sister’s friend had told us, “Ask for J Mac.” From the moment we met, something felt easy between us. He was genuine, transparent, and so charming. As we went through all the details of the car, our conversation drifted to dreams and plans—I even shared with him my hope of someday opening a wine bar. He was upfront with me, too, explaining that I didn’t need to buy a new car; I could get a great deal by buying out my lease. When I left that day, I looked back and saw him watching me walk away. He likes to say I had a twinkle in my eye. I say he definitely had one too. A few days later, he followed up. I shared that I’d decided to buy out my lease, and I asked if he was single. He teased me and asked if I was single-single, because, in his words, “all women have a bench.” That made me laugh. I assured him I was, and we exchanged numbers. Over the next few days, we texted constantly and quickly discovered a connection neither of us expected. Things took off fast. We were inseparable. We’ve had our share of ups and downs in the beginning as we learned how much growing we each still needed to do before we could truly come together. But here we are, years later—wiser, stronger, and trusting God to guide us. We’re so grateful for the path that led us back to Him and then to each other.
It was a beautiful spring afternoon in April of 2023. I was doing some follow-up calls, sending emails, when the receptionist called me. I wasn’t expecting any clients at that time, but I was told I had a guest. I made my way to the front desk, where I had two beautiful ladies waiting. I didn’t recognize them, so I quickly introduced myself. “Welcome to Mercedes Benz of Silver Spring,” with a slight smile, “I am James McDonald,” making eye contact the whole time with my hand extended, “and you all are?” I could tell by their look that they weren’t ready. 😂 Ranita went on to say that they were referred to me. I said I get it, I was the best consultant ever. After a consultation and test drive. I gave Rachita my professional opinion, buy out her current lease. I thanked them for their visit and walked them to the exit. I am not sure if Rachita was impressed with my professionalism, or if she heard wedding bells at that time. She almost ran into the door when leaving. I noticed a twinkle in her eye as she departed. It was a refreshing encounter.
