Dear Friends and Family, We are so excited to celebrate our union with all of you in a place where we share a deep and special bond. The weekend is intended to be an Adirondack Mountains and Lake Placid experience. Lake Placid is in the heart of the Adirondack State Park, which at over 6 million acres is one of the largest wilderness areas in the US. The elevation is 2,000 feet, and it is common to have cool days and cool evenings in late August. While the event will expose you to some aspects of the area, there is much to see and experience. Please check out the “what to do” tab above. We start off the weekend on Main Steet Friday night with cocktails overlooking Mirror Lake followed by a BBQ dinner and the triumphant return of Roger’s college-era blues band. Smoke Signals is a fun place with great food. Dress is casual. On Saturday out of town guests are invited to a box lunch event at the Smith family home on the shore of Lake Placid. “Camp Carolina” was built in 1912 by Caesar Cone, the owner of Cone Cotton Mills. Cone were the largest producers of blue denim for much of the 20th century. Camp Carolina is built in the classic Adirondack “Great Camp” style of architecture, which remains very popular. There will be opportunities for boat tours in vintage mahogany speedboats, water sports, and walks in the woods. Later Saturday afternoon we will all assemble at Mt. Whitney for the wedding ceremony and a reception dinner. Mt. Whitney was one of America’s first ski hills in the late 1930s. It is now an open field and slope in the woods and part of the Smith property. As such, the theme of the wedding centers on being in the woods, mountains, and on the hollowed grounds of early skiing. The dress is “festive alpine”, where the focus is on being warm and having comfortable shoes. On Sunday out of town guests are invited to the Lake Placid Lodge for a farewell brunch. We have secured discounted rooms at two hotels. Lake Placid is a busy tourist destination, so we encourage all to make plans early. The first hotel is right on Mirror Lake and Main Street. It’s easy walking access to shops and the Friday night event. The second location is a very high-end small resort hotel right on Lake Placid. Please see the “travel” link above for more information. We are excited to see you in Lake Placid! Rachelle and Roger
We kindly request no gifts for our wedding. Your journey to celebrate with us is enough of a gift.
