Welcome to Our Wedding!

It all started with a "thanks for the add" message from Yemi on Jan 6, 2020 at 8:24 am. Rachelle was a first year OB GYN resident in Chicago looking for love, networking, and distractions from her sleep deprived life on the Young Black American Doctor Singles Facebook group (YBAD). She had a slew of bad dates behind her (if you're from Chicago then you know) and was about to swear off men for the winter. Little did she know that fate had other plans when she opened her Facebook Messenger on Jan 6th 2020. Yemi sent a direct message request commenting (no doubt pulled in by the little Red Riding Hood profile picture) which she accepted on a whim. What started out as friendly chatter was interrupted by a Pandemic which shook everyone to their very foundation. During the lockdown Rachelle began working from home where she relied on virtual interactions with friends and family in New York and Chicago. During this time of uncertainty and loss, Yemi and Rachelle continued to grow closer through their virtual interactions despite being in Ann Arbor and Chicago. By April 2020, what started as a friendly encounter blossomed into an unconventional relationship. Immediately after Covid restrictions lifted Rachelle and Yemi met in person for the first time on May 24th 2020. Since then Rachelle and Yemi's relationship has withstood a second pandemic, adoption of their four legged family member (Bentley), Yemi's move to Las Vegas, simultaneous enrollment in Rachelle's Ob-Gyn residency in Chicago and Yemi's Pediatric residency in Las Vegas, Rachelle's emergency myomectomy, recovery from multiple injuries, graduation from a Ob Gyn residency and passing Rachelle's written boards. Their relationship has only gotten stronger with every obstacle; when Yemi proposed to Rachelle, her response was an instant "Yes!" We hope everyone enjoyed hearing our story.
