If the government is still just down, the Smithsonian Museums will be closed. The National Mall is always open and is the perfect place for a walk or run. Our favorite non-Smithsonian museums open during the shutdown include the National Building Museum, The Phillips Collection, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, and the Hillwood Estate and Gardens.
The Wharf is a new development in DC with lots of great restaurants and activities. Kids can play life-size board games and roast marshmallows at Camp Wharf. One of our favorite restaurants is Mi Vida, but you can't go wrong with any spot on the Wharf.
Georgetown is one of our favorite neighborhoods for dining, shopping, and walking around. Some of our favorite places are Martin's Tavern (where we ate the night we got engaged), South Block, YELLOW, and Thomas Sweet (the best ice cream in DC).
Wedding guests who purchase museum tickets online can visit for a discounted rate. Enter code RACHELHARRY at checkout under coupon code. It is recommended to purchase tickets in advance as the museum has been selling out.
We live in Adams Morgan, and we have so many favorite neighborhood spots. Tryst and Soleluna are perfect for a coffee and pastry. The Diner is a favorite casual lunch or dinner spot (it's open 24/7). The Line hotel is worth checking out and they have a fun cocktail bar inside.
