Rachel and Tutai met on the Paul Gauguin cruise ship in Tahiti, French Polynesia in July of 2018. Rachel's grandparents took her to Tahiti for her college graduation present so she could go scuba diving in some of the most beautiful water on Earth. Her sisters and parents tagged along, making it a family vacation. Tutai was hired earlier that year as a "Gauguin" to share his culture with the guests through music, dance, language, and activities. He was playing his guitar when Rachel walked up to board the ship, arm in arm with her grandmother, tired and a little disheveled from their red-eye flight. The Holy Spirit whispered in Rachel's ear to look up and smile at the musicians as a way to thank them. Little did she know, her smile stopped Tai and made him forget what song he was playing. He was head over heels. Rachel noticed Tutai the next morning at a cultural presentation on the islands' legends. She couldn't take her eyes off of him and tried to find a way to be around him and catch his eye throughout the rest of the trip. Finally, on the very last day of the cruise, Tutai confessed his love for her with gifts and a letter. As soon as Rachel had wifi, she added Tutai on Facebook, and they began messaging and video-chatting every day. Four years, many plane trips, the 2020 pandemic, and immigration restrictions later, Tutai got on one knee with a borrowed ring from his sister and asked Rachel to marry him over video call. They got married in France in September of 2022 with their parents and a few family members who could make the trip. Now, for their 4th wedding anniversary, they want to celebrate with all of their favorite people and thank God for his countless blessings and provisions. Mauruuru Te Atua, Iaorana Manava, e Maeva!
