From Steven: Rach and I met through mutual friends while she was working as a nurse in Nashville and I was in school down in Alabama. That chance meeting developed into a close friendship, which soon grew into a wonderful relationship. During our long distance year of dating, I never once regretted making the six hour drive up to Nashville to see Rach and explore the city with her. She is infinitely more fun than I am, and she brings so much color to my life. Posting to Washington for my next Army assignment was an enormous blessing. Rachel and I finally moved to the same town and we were a short drive away from her parents down in Portland. Our year in Tacoma brought us ever closer to each other and we got engaged in April near her hometown. Through all of the last two years, God has been a faithful provider and our relationship is held tightly together by his goodness and mercy. I’m the luckiest guy in the world to have Rach as my best friend and future wife. From Rachel: The same weekend Steven and I were introduced by mutual friends, we ended up splitting up from the group and talking in the back corner of a smokey Alabama bar named Cowboys. I remember vividly thinking during that conversation, "I could spend my whole life with this guy". The next 1.5 years were full of 6 hour drives between Enterprise, Alabama (where Steven was in flight school) and Nashville, Tennessee (where I was working at Vanderbilt). In January of 2017, we both moved to Tacoma, WA (thank you army for bringing us to the PNW) and on April 14, 2018 Steven proposed at my favorite spot along the Oregon Coast (with family and friends hiding in bushes). There have been many days of bliss and many days of trial, but I thank God every day for the best friend he brought me. The man who has loved me faithfully every single day; my favorite person to laugh with, learn from and love. Whether in adventure or in the mundane, happiness or sadness, I can't wait for our life together.
