The year is 2015, Rachel and Sadie met like many queer millennial women, on a dating app. Rachel was immediately attracted to Sadie’s smile, and took initiative and sent the first message (a cute detail a lot of their close friends and family might not know)! Lucky for them the app said they were only a few short miles away from each other! Unfortunately, that would prove to be incorrect! They were actually 4 hours away from each other. Rachel, a city girl in the thick of her service learning year in her hometown of Denver, Colorado and Sadie finishing up college at Western State Colorado University only a hop, skip and a jump from her hometown of Delta, Colorado. It would take until December 2015 for them to finally meet in person. Sadie made the long drive to Denver and picked Rachel up from her downtown Denver apartment to head to a first date at the Denver Zoo Lights. Rachel, busy FaceTiming friends and having a little drink to help calm her nerves, missed the “I’m here” text from Sadie. After circling the building a few times, Sadie thought Rachel had stood her up or was catfishing her but sure enough in true Rachel city girl - fashion she raced downstairs, went outside and hopped in Sadie’s car without even making sure it was her first (A funny detail Sadie loves to share that shook her to her core). After missing the exit and locking the keys in the car (a fact Sadie is still embarrassed about today) they made it to Denver Zoo Lights! Sounds like the start of a RomCom, huh?! Well this love story can be spilt into 3 different chapters…
Rachel and Sadie began dating long distance for about two and a half years while Rachel continued working in Denver and Sadie went on to get her Master’s Degree. They both made an effort to visit each other every couple of months, Rachel spending her money on endless Greyhound rides, and Sadie putting a ton of miles on her new Hyundai Santa Fe she had just gotten. Their time together over the years included a lot of FaceTime, Panda Express dates, and tears when it was time to say goodbye again. Rachel enjoyed spending time in Delta, Colorado with Sadie’s family during this time, and notes one of her favorite memories being visiting Ouray, Colorado for the first time! Long distance taught them good communication, understanding how to support each other through listening, patience, and trust and most importantly how to treasure every moment spent together.
Ultimately in 2018 Sadie graduated with her Masters Degree, moved to Denver and got a job while Rachel began her Masters Degree Journey in the Fall of that year! These two love birds really enjoyed living together in their small south Denver apartment that they affectionately call their “shoebox apartment”. Rachel was a block away from the University of Denver and Sadie was only a 3 minute drive away from work. This apartment got them through graduate school, first jobs, and the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020. During this time Rachel graduated with her Masters Degree and accepted a position at Colorado State University and these two moved up to Fort Collins that September. Living together for the first time, not only did they learn the other person’s weird quirks, but they learned respect of each other’s spaces, how to collaborate and most importantly how to better support and love each other.
These two both have loved adjusting to Northern Colorado living. It was here they survived a global pandemic, planned cross country trips to see Broadway shows, traveled across the world on a dream Greece vacation but the biggest event was soon to come. In January of 2023, Rachel and Sadie planned out a fun date night to visit the Denver Zoo Lights, the same location of their first date. Rachel, completely clueless, had no idea that Sadie was planning to ask her to marry her, and that their loved ones were quietly waiting at a nearby Denver coffee shop to surprise these two and celebrate their engagement. These adventures taught them patience, the value of living for now and that life isn’t about the places you go but the people you experience them with. Since then, these two of adopted their first dog together, Frank the Pug, while diving head first into wedding planning! Sadie and Rachel are so excited for whatever this next chapter might bring starting with their wedding in Severance, Colorado with their loved ones in April of 2025. In the future, they hope to continue traveling, going on adventures, having breakfast together, buying a home, and of course getting a second pug they would like to name Beans! (Frank and Beans is so cute for two dogs right?!) Thank you for learning about our love story!
