FAQs

If you have any questions beyond what we've listed out below, feel free to reach out to either of us.
Question

What's the weather like in Edinburgh in July?

Answer

Summer (June, July and August) are normally the warmest months in Scotland, with average maximum temperatures ranging from approximately 59°F to 63°F. Weather permitting, the ceremony will be outside, the cocktail hour will be half in and half out, and the reception will be inside. Scotland's high latitude also means that there are lovely long summer days, with the sun not setting until around 10 PM.

Question

What’s the dress code?

Answer

The dress code is formal black tie/traditional kilt. That means women in long dresses and men in either tuxes or kilts (encouraged). Ladies, it is a tradition at weddings in the UK for women to pair a matching hat or headpiece called a fascinator to help compliment and embellish their outfit. This is completely optional, but we wanted to let you know. Gentlemen, if you do not have a kilt but would like to wear one to the wedding that is encouraged! Here is a website, https://clan.com/families, where you can find your family tartan based on your last name. See the FAQ below for kilt rental details. Feel free to reach out to Roy and I directly with questions or for outfit approvals ;)

Question

Are kids invited?

Answer

We love your kids, but we want our wedding to be your night off!

Question

Is there a shuttle to and from the hotel to the ceremony?

Answer

Yes, there will be buses provided to and from the wedding venue, dropping off in The Royal Mile area. There are also Ubers and taxis available.

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

If your invitation includes your guest's name or says “and Guest,” then yes, if not, we would prefer if it was just you.

Question

Can I go to The Open while I'm there?

Answer

The weekend of our wedding (July 10-17, 2022) is also the 150th Open at St. Andrews, which is only about an hour drive from Edinburgh. For people interested in potentially attending The Open while they're there, please follow this link for details around entering the ticket lottery: https://www.theopen.com/150th-ticket-ballot. Because this weekend is also The Open, we recommend booking your stay as soon as possible.
