Question

What can I expect at an Orthodox Jewish Wedding?

Answer

We're so excited to share this special simcha (which means 'celebration' in Hebrew) with you! You can read all about a Jewish wedding here: https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/476757/jewish/Jewish-Wedding-Ceremony-Traditions.htm. The traditional Jewish wedding is made up of a number of special rituals: 1. Kabbalat Panim - The Pre-Wedding Reception 2. Bedeken - Veiling the Bride 3. The Wedding Procession 4. The Chuppah - Marriage Canopy 5. The Betrothal (kiddushin and nisu'in) 6. The Ketubah - Marriage Contract 7. The Sheva Brachot - Seven Blessings 8. Breaking the Glass 9. Yichud Then we feast and dance! The dancing will be separated by gender with a mechitza. We are here to answer any questions you might have about our wedding or what to expect when you arrive!

Question

What is the dress code for the wedding?

Answer

We are asking our guests to dress in formal attire. What does this mean for you? We kindly request our female guests to dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered). There will be LOTS of dancing so make sure you have your dancing shoes on :) Men should feel comfortable to wear a suit and tie of their choosing.

Question

Are children invited?

Answer

Yes, children of all ages are invited! Please include your children in your RSVP.

Question

Reuven and Rachel are shomer negiah. What does this mean?

Answer

Rachel and Reuven observe shomer negiah, the Jewish practice where they refrain from hugging/shaking hands and in general touching members of the opposite sex. Your attendance, warm words and smiles are more than enough!
