Our First Date

A perfect day that felt like forever.

Rachel’s Side: When Matt told me he’d rather go grocery shopping with me than go to a party, I thought it was kind of random—but oddly sweet. So naturally, we ended up doing exactly that. We started with games at Nickel City Arcade (Matt got wrecked from my connect four basketball skills), grabbed boba, and then wandered Zion Market like it was the most normal thing for two people who had just met. We ended the night at Hilltop Park, sitting on a bench and talking about the kind of life we wanted—what home might look like one day. It felt unexpectedly easy. At the end of the night, I awkwardly bumped my head on the car door while asking for his number. Not my best moment, but... maybe it worked. Matt’s Side: I told her I’d rather go grocery shopping with her than go to a party—and I meant it. I wasn’t looking for anything grand. I wanted to see what it felt like to just be with her in everyday life. The arcade was fun, boba was great, and wandering Zion Market felt surprisingly natural. But it was that conversation at Hilltop Park that stuck with me. We sat on a bench overlooking the city and started talking about the future—what we wanted, what home could look like. At one point, Rachel said, “Love is someone to come home to.” I still think about that moment. It was simple, honest, and everything I didn’t know I needed to hear. Years later, I proposed to her on that same bench—because that day, I knew I had found the person I wanted to come home to.
