How We Met

#WakondaForever

Rachel and Kyle met at Wakonda Family campground where both their families had camped for over ten years. In this large campground, the two had never met until the summer of 2016. That is when Rachel's mom, Kim, met the amazing Palombo family. She listened to Kyle's mom tell the story of how he had stayed up the night before teaching her the "running man". Hearing this, Kim knew Kyle was the one for her daughter. When telling Rachel about this great guy she met up at camp, Rachel rolled her eyes at her mother believing that nothing would come of this setup. It was 4th of July weekend when her mother told her that Kyle was up at camp and wanted to meet her. Reluctantly, Rachel went up to appease her mother and meet this guy she had been telling her all about. Rachel and Kyle met and hung out the entire weekend. They ended their weekend together enjoying the 4th of July fireworks over the beautiful Schroon Lake. By the end, they were both smitten...and so their love story began.

The Proposal

5.25.19

Memorial Day weekend 2019 brought the beginning of summer and the official start to the camp season. For Kyle and Rachel this is an extra special time as it is when and where they met! The weekend held plans of a potluck party with everyone bringing a different dish to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend. Prior to leaving for this gathering Hope, Kyles mom, conveniently "forgot" her canteen down at the beach. Kyle offered to take a walk down and grab it. He asked Rachel to join him. As the two reached the beach, Kyle pulled Rachel aside and got down on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him, and she of course said YES! He then told her this whole gathering was planned for them as a celebration of their engagement. When they reached the Lodge, family and friends were there waiting in anticipation to congratulate them and share in their joy.
