I used to work weekends as a barista at a bookstore coffee shop. Eric worked at the outdoor gear shop up the street and used to come in for Mocha's. He always left a tip, and I always gave him extra whip. We didn't have much interaction beyond small talk, but I always liked to see him come in. Later he told me he would volunteer to do the coffee runs for the shop just in case I was working! I would see Eric around town sometimes and I would smile and I remember thinking, how can I talk to this guy?! One day we were both at the Little Fleet downtown. I was volunteering for Planned Parenthood at the Pride Parade, and I noticed Eric sitting at the bar. I thought to myself, well, there's no time like the present! I wrote my name and number on a napkin and stood behind him at the bar. I stood there for what seemed like hours waiting for the people in front of me to get out of the way so I could slide up next to Eric. When I was finally able to sneak in next to him, I slipped him my number. He texted later, and the rest, as they say, is history!
