Diana Vazquez Duque

Maid of Honor

Rachel and I first met in 2019 when we started our Master's program at Pacific University. We bonded over our shared love of food and shared hatred of graduate level homework. Though the Covid 19 pandemic disrupted our classes, our friendship flourished seamlessly through texts, pictures of Olive, and lengthy phone calls. Since then, Rachel and I have gone on countless in-person adventures from getting trapped in a hot pot restaurant for 3 hours to being caught in a torrential downpour outside of the Nike Employee store. And just like that, Rachel became my best friend. Watching Rachel and David's love story unfold has been nothing short of magical. I am so excited to see David and Rachel embark on this new adventure together and look forward to seeing all of the ways they continue to grow in their love.

Karli Tyance Hassell

Bridesmaid

My name is Karli and I currently live in Anchorage, Alaska and it was here - this wonderful state - where I first met Rachel in summer of 2019. We both were hired on as interns for the same program, and spent a solid 3 weeks with some awesome Indigenous scholars, students and mentors. For the rest of the summer, we ended up bonding over workplace shenanigans, our love for our cultures/peoples, and spent a lot of the time laughing, and exploring the state (sometimes with my in-laws); travelling to the World Eskimo Indian Olympics, handing out "wrap your oosik" condoms, or floating down the Kenai River in rain gear that was way to large for little Rachel. In true foodie fashion, we also think about these chocolate chip cookies from Homer, Alaska to this day - they were truly the best. We've kept in touch over the years, where I'd come to visit Oregon or Washington, and where Rachel would indulge my kpop addiction by driving me to an event, getting delicious food, and taking me to obscure places like "The Grotto". Both of our dudes are/were in the military so we've also come to bond over how weird certain processes (or lack of process) can be. I am very excited to see my little friend (extra little to me because I am at least a foot taller) grow (grow as in mentally/emotionally/spiritually lol) and how happy she is with David! I know we are all both honored and excited to support them on this special day and into the future.

Alex Hasselman

Groomsman

Hello, I am Alex, I currently reside in Texas but grew up in Oregon. Texas is a state that plays a meaningful role in our relationship. David and I both completed Basic Military Training and Technical school in Texas. David’s first duty station was in Abilene, just an hour north of where I attended Tech School. Life took us in different directions—me to California, David to Alaska—but we eventually found our way back to Texas. We reunited at the San Antonio Riverwalk, which, notably, was the first (and probably only) time we both sported mustaches. David’s importance in my life truly cannot be overstated. Although we’ve known each other since the fourth grade, we didn’t truly become friends until high school where we competed on swim team together, lifeguarded together, and—along with Justin—successfully summited every school in North Albany, somehow making it through unscathed. After high school, our friendship transcended into brotherhood as both briefly went to college together, joined the Air Force, and eventually pursued our own careers. As a divorce lawyer, I’ve grown used to seeing relationships at their most difficult. So it’s an even greater honor for me to be part of something joyful and lasting. I’m incredibly grateful to David and Rachel for including me in their celebration, and for giving me the privilege of standing beside them on such a meaningful day. Congratulations, David and Rachel! I truly wish you both success in life and marriage!

Jacob Deloe

Groomsman

Known to many as the Tree-Beard Man, his very presence seems to exude chlorine. Jacob Deloe—though simply called Deloe by all—first encountered David on the cold, damp deck of the Albany Community Pool. It is an unspoken truth among swimmers: if you master the water, you are proficient in three of the four strokes—except, of course, for breaststroke. Which is the oddest of the competitive strokes. Naturally, David, ever the anomaly, excelled at it. Deloe, a swimmer seemingly since the dawn of time, was a master of all but the one stroke. In the water, David was Deloe’s playful companion, a presence that turned grueling laps into shared laughter. Summers and weekends were spent in the best man’s company—playing games, failing miserably at basketball, attempting to ride whatever horses they could find, eating weird things (thanks Justin’s older brother), and, in general, being teenage boys. Those high school summers, filled with the rhythmic sounds of the pool and the easy camaraderie of friendship, remain among the most treasured memories of the groom’s youth. And now, as I, Deloe, stand here today, I eagerly anticipate the new memories David and his bride will create—moments to be shared with family and lifelong friends. It is an honor to be part of this occasion, though, truthfully, I’m mostly here for the cider… since beer, unfortunately, is not an option as it destroys me.

Emma Brandt

Bridesmaid

Rachel and I’s friendship started in the most simple, sweet way—doggy playdates at the tennis courts in the apartment complex we both lived in. After Nala and Olive met for the first time, we quickly fell into a routine of meeting up to let them run around and get their energy out. What started as quick chats turned into dinners, baking nights, and a friendship that just grew naturally from there. We made it through all the chaos of that complex together—including the wild kids who somehow always popped out of the bushes—and found comfort in just having each other close by. Then Rachel met David, and everything just clicked. The four of us got along right away, and now Rachel and I are constantly exchanging looks and laughing while David and Tas crack the most ridiculous jokes back and forth. Eventually we both moved out, and even when Rachel moved to Washington to be closer to David, and now to Coos Bay, we’ve stayed close. The distance hasn’t changed a thing and has stayed strong through every life change. I’m so thankful our dogs brought us together—and for everything our friendship has become since.

Tyler Day

Groomsman

I have had the privilege of knowing David for a long time, having grown up just down the street from him. Over the years, our shared passion for cars and music laid the foundation for a strong friendship. I work as a firefighter paramedic, which means I’m trained to handle emergencies... though I can’t always save him from his questionable dance moves. It is a true honor to stand beside him on this important occasion.

Elizabeth Boyes

Bridesmaid

Hi, I'm Elizabeth (“Lizard” to Rachel) from Boston, Massachusetts. Ten years ago, I took a leap of faith that changed my life: leaving Massachusetts for Portland, Oregon, where I knew absolutely no one. That leap led me to rush a sorority where I met Rachel, who became not just my Big, but my chosen sister. Through the whirlwind of college years, Rachel was the voice of reason. She guided me, supported me, and shared both my laughter and tears. Even as life pulled us to opposite coasts—me back east and her out west—our bond only grew stronger. One of my fondest memories of Rachel is when she visited me on the east coast. There we were in Portland, Maine, at Gross Confectionery Bar, ordering seven desserts served on actual 2x4 boards! The looks on passersby's faces (a mix of judgement and, I’d like to think, pure awe) as we struggled to eat all those desserts still makes me laugh to this day. Watching Rachel grow from my college Big to the incredible person she is today and seeing how happy Rachel is with David fills my heart with joy. Rachel and David, as you two begin this beautiful chapter together, I know your love story is just beginning. Here's to a lifetime of happiness, adventure, and maybe a few more dessert feasts (can I third wheel?) along the way.

Mark Baglien

Groomsman

Hi, I'm Mark, 30, and I'm an Industrial Appraiser based out of Salem, Oregon. I met David when I was going to school at Oregon State University, through our mutual friend Jay, almost immediately I could see the qualities his best friends saw in him. Everything I heard about David before I met him, was all about how he was super positive, a great guy, and a bit of a wild man. While I can confirm those things are true, I also quickly realised he was someone who I knew I could always count on. David brings a lively positive energy to any setting, most start to realize there is far more to David than just what meets the eye. From his love and support of his friends and family, to his honesty which means you know you're going to get his real opinion even when it's not what you want to hear. David is truly a man I have come to admire as much as any, and a man who inspires me to be a better man every day, and a truly great friend. My hobbies include shooting, hiking, axe throwing, playing darts, losing to David in Disc Golf(he probably cheats), and engaging in a seemingly never-ending battle with 225. I am beyond excited for David and Rachel's special day and their life together going forward.
