FAQs

The Wedding Website of Rachel Brown and Carlos Escaba
We want all of our guests to feel prepared for their travel to our wedding. Below are Questions and Answers we think will be helpful! This FAQ is mostly for our friends and family flying from far away who have never been to Valle de Guadalupe. Please reach out to Carlos or Rachel with any questions not addressed below.
Question

Do I Need a Valid Passport?

Answer

YES! You 100% will need a valid passport to travel in and out of Mexico.

Question

Will I Need Transportation Once I am in Valle de Guadalupe?

Answer

Every 'wedding event' Friday & Saturday will have transportation provided. However, if you are interested in exploring Valle, you will need to coordinate transportation. Please note, if you arrive on Thursday and want to plan dinner out of your hotel, please make a reservation ahead of time because places get booked up and you will need to coordinate the transportation.

Question

Does Valle Have Ubers or Taxis?

Answer

They do, but are very unreliable so we do not recommend using them. We recommend scheduling a car with your hotel or with a private car service. Here is information for Manuel who is a reliable car service for hire in advance: call him or message him on WhatsApp +52 664 753 7499

Question

How Do I Get to Valle de Guadalupe?

Answer

Driving by car from the border to Valle is about an hour and a half, by bus it is closer to 2 hours. If you are driving yourself, there are toll roads, please have $20 worth of cash in total going there and back. There are a few options. 1. Drive your own car. If you are local we recommend driving yourself! If you have Global Entry, you must have Sentri on your car to use the Sentri lane. We recommend adding your vehicle to your Global Entry now so it will be approved and added by October. 2. Rent a car. If you are flying in to Tijuna, you can rent a car in Mexico. If you are flying to San Diego, you can rent a car from DOLLAR, HERTZ, or SUN DIEGO CAR RENTAL (these places allow you to drive across the border in a rental car). Additionally, if you are renting in San Diego and crossing the border with your rental car, we suggest taking out a special insurance called BAJA BOUND for each day you have the car. If you have Global Entry and will be renting a car to cross the border, it will not matter since rentals do not have Sentri which is required to use the 'Global Entry' lane called Sentri. 3. Schedule a car service. Here is a number for Manual who can help schedule a personal car to get you across the border and back on Sunday. He also has cars that can stay in Valle the whole weekend. If you hire a car service and have Global Entry it will not matter unless the car has Sentri attached to it, which most do not have. Call or WhatsApp Manuel at +52 664 753 7499 4. Shuttles. Only if you are flying into San Diego airport, shuttles will be offered on Thursday & Friday with a return shuttle on Sunday. If you have Global Entry, it will not matter because you will be going through the Bus Lane. You must RSVP in advance for the shuttle. PLEASE NOTE: ONCE YOU ARE IN VALLE DE GUADALUPE, MANY ROADS ARE UNPAVED AND YOUR CAR CAN GET DUSTY. If you get car sick from long car rides, we recommend non drowsy dramamine.

Question

Is Crossing the Border Safe?

Answer

YES! It is very safe. The Mexico/San Diego border is the busiest, most used border crossing in the country. Thousands of people do it every day for work. It is very secure. Carlos and Rachel cross the border often. The most challenging part of crossing the border is the unpredictability of how long it will take. Carlos and Rachel have experienced crossing back from Mexico into the US as quickly as 5 min to over an hour. It can get VERY backed up returning into the US. (If you are taking the shuttle, we will be taking this into account for your pick up on Sunday).

Question

I've Never Been to Mexico, Anything I Should Avoid?

Answer

We recommend NOT drinking unfiltered water. Once you are at the hotel, there will be free water bottles in your rooms. At restaurants, they offer filtered water, or you can pay for a bottle of water. We also recommend avoiding raw lettuce/produce. If you are going to order vegetables, we suggest going with steamed, grilled, baked - cooked. The Bride has a more sensitive stomach than most, and this is her suggestion to follow, however the places you're staying raw vegetables are safe... but these are our recommendations.

Question

I'm flying into San Diego, what time are the shuttles?

Answer

If you are flying into San Diego, you should have received an email from Robert Brown (Rachel's Father). Once he has everyone's flight information, shuttles will be confirmed and you will be updated prior to the wedding weekend.

Question

Do I Need to Exchange Dollars for Pesos?

Answer

No, everything can be paid by credit card or with US dollar bills. For people coming in Thursday, you are on your own for dinner. Depending on your hotel, breakfast is not included. If you want to leave a tip, you can do that on your credit card or leave US dollar bills. Make sure to check the exchange rate before you come as it changes. The formula is: The Amount Owed In Pesos divided by the Exchange rate, and that is the Dollar Amount. And as said previously, if you are driving, there will be toll roads so you will need to have $20 worth of cash in total going there and back.

Question

What is the Weather?/Tips for Packing

Answer

Please check the weather before you go, in your weather app it is under El Cielo Valle de Guadalupe (We're not sure why, but there is another Valle de Guadalupe listed that is incorrect). Typically in October it is in the high 70s (Fahrenheit) but can get cooler in the mornings and at night so please bring layers. There are many unpaved roads and paths so make sure to wear shoes you are comfortable getting dusty/cleaning (except at the wedding). They say Valle is very 'instagramable' so be comfortable, but feel free to dress cute all weekend long! :-) When you RSVP to each 'wedding event', we've included more specific dress code information for you.
