How They Met

March 2016

Caleb and Rachel met through a mutual friend at Starbucks. Caleb then slipped into her DM’s on Facebook saying, “I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn’t ask you on a date.” Rachel said “I think we should be friends,” and Caleb took that as a yes. He very persistently kept making sure their group of friends hung out together, knowing that he would win her over. His plan worked like a charm and Rachel fell for Caleb’s goofy sense of humor and huge heart. Caleb knew he was in love almost immediately, and Rachel knew after a worship night at church a few months later.

The Proposal

August 13, 2017

Rachel had no idea that Caleb had a ring. He woke her up early on a Sunday morning to go to the beach. (She should have known something was up because he hates the beach!) They went to Blowing Rocks Preserve, a beautiful beach where the water blows up through the rocks. Caleb asked a stranger to take their picture. When he handed her the camera, he whispered “I’m about to propose. It’s a video, it’s already recording.” Naturally, Rachel wanted to see the “picture” to make sure she liked it, so as she was walking toward the camera, Caleb got down on one knee. He said “Rachel?” She turned around and said “Yeah?” Caleb had a whole speech planned, but was so nervous he could only utter “Will you marry me?” Rachel said, “Are you serious?” Caleb said “...yes.” It was awkwardly perfect in every way.

SURPRISE

November 1st, 2017

Rachel and Caleb were planning their wedding for July 2018. They found out they were pregnant (due in July 2018!) in November, just 3 days after getting Waffle. At first, Rach was terrified and Caleb was calm and overjoyed. Rachel had been told by multiple doctors that she had a condition which would prevent her from getting pregnant, so they thought they would have to do years of fertility treatment. This was a miracle. Caleb and Rachel got married at their church at midnight on Christmas Eve 2017. They are so excited to have their “big wedding” now with all of their friends and family.

Parker was born

June 29, 2018

*Written by Rachel for one of her mommy Facebook groups. Read and enjoy at Caleb’s expense.* .........My husband is watching and goes “is that his head?!” And she says “it sure is!” I wasn’t even pushing and he could see the baby’s head! I say “does he have hair?!” And he says “yes!!!” So I feel a contraction and give one huge push. My husband is on one side holding my leg and a nurse is holding the other. The doctor goes “the head is out!” All of a sudden my husband FALLS BACKWARD still holding my leg, and passes out. He’s still holding on to my leg to hold himself up but he had pulled it completely back, and his eyes are rolling to the back of his head. At this point everyone is freaking out. The doctor is screaming at him “LET GO OF HER!” And finally someone gets him off of me and I guess I push while this is happening, because the baby comes out and I don’t even know it. They give me the baby for a total of 10 seconds and then take him away because I look at my husband and see his face is GREEN. I’ve never seen a person with a green face before. So I’m screaming “THAT’S NOT THE RIGHT SKIN COLOR!” (My whole family jokes about how odd that would sound to anyone passing by a delivery room.) At this point the nurses are catering to my husband with the cold towels and juice that were supposed to be for me. Parker (our baby) is on one side of the room, my husband is on the other, and I’m just laying there saying “ARE THEY OK?!” The doctor says “THE BABY IS OK, THE BIG BABY ISN’T!” Apparently, he felt himself about to pass out and said “I need a tap out. I need someone to switch.” And everyone just ignored him because I had a baby halfway hanging out of me. I definitely don’t remember him saying that, and if I did I’m sure I did ignore him. I told the nurses to give my baby back to me (haha) and I was finally able to hold him and snuggle him. About 20 minutes later my husband looked like a human being again so he was allowed to stand up and meet his son.
