Smith and Beering

Well, that's funny..

Sean and Rachael circled each other unintentionally in social (and comedy) circles for years. Sean requested dates; Rachael rebuffed him. Finally, when she could rebuff no more, she agreed to a glass of wine (not Sean's beverage of preference at all) at her place of employment in Santa Rosa's Railroad Square, The Wine Spectrum. What followed was a confusing and coy courtship that morphed into an official relationship. Sean and Rachael performed improv with the World's Biggest Comedy Duo for a (debated) number of years before starting to date. When they finally got together, everyone collectively rolled their eyes and a great many "that took long enough's" were dropped in casual conversation. Retiring from comedy for civilian life of wine, beer, music and dog adoption they moved in together. They fought about the serious and silly things that best friends/lovers do, discussed books, movies, heroes, faith, fevered dreams, and absurd jokes. They built their foundation on levity, agreements won after emphatic disagreement, more absurd jokes, their care for the people in their lives and mutual need to say "DOG" literally anytime at all that they would see one in the street/in a car/restaurant/on TV... you get the picture. One surprisingly warm day in Anaheim, California in November 2017, the sleepy couple tripped into Disneyland after a harrowing and overlong drive to southern California. The normal succession of rides were expected but Sean deviated from the plan and took Rachael into Pirates of the Caribbean as the second ride of the day (after Indiana Jones.) Exhausted and mystified, Rachael followed with nary an argument (very unusual for her.) Sean insisted that they sit in the back of the boat because "it is quieter and we'll have it to ourselves." Sean proposed at the Treasure Room to an incredulous Rachael who demanded, "Are you messing with me?" ...followed by a YES, YES, YES!, kissing and crying.

The Pineapple Story

Instead of flowers...

Per my mom's request (and because it's part of our decor) we want to share the significance of the pineapple for us. Sean has always gotten me flowers for no reason, surprising me at work or with a lovely bouquet at home. Instead bringing me flowers to apologize after a fight once, he presented me with a pineapple. An apology pineapple. The pineapple, which we have given each other many times by now, is a fun and sweet way to say sorry and lighten the mood.
