They met for the first time while on the archery team at their high school and became close friends. At the time, the bride was in a relationship, so even though they had great chemistry nothing went any further. After the groom graduated he happened to get a summer job where the bride was working and they became close again, but the situation stayed the same as the bride was in a relationship. They eventually lost touch again until the bride graduated high school and started college at Liberty University. On the first day of classes, they happened to have a psychology class together and started hanging out after class. Again they got very close and ended up spending a lot of their free time together. Eventually, with the encouragement of her friends, the groom finally asked her out on one of the outlooks of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This same outlook is where he would propose 611 days later.
