The Meet

Purdue and a Beer

Our story begins where all great love stories should: a Purdue football game and a beer line. On Thursday, September 1, 2022, Rachael was back at Ross-Ade Stadium for her first Purdue football game since graduating in 2020. As she stood in line debating between a Boiler Gold and a Boiler Black, the guy behind her (Malcolm) decided to make the choice easy — and bought her a Boiler Gold instead. He confidently explained that it tasted more like a Corona, which just happened to be her favorite kind of beer. (Points were earned immediately.) The Boilermakers lost a close one to Penn State 35–31, but Rachael walked away with something much better than a win. They exchanged numbers, and soon texting turned into FaceTiming. That weekend, Rachael was back in West Lafayette for a back-to-school party with her friend Sofia. Malcolm asked to hang out, but she declined — wisely deciding she didn’t want their first hangout to involve drunk introductions. Undeterred, Malcolm asked again and suggested they hang out that Sunday after she got back. He showed up with a caramel macchiato from Starbucks, met her roommates, Cub (her dog), and — unintentionally — her entire family, who happened to be making homemade carnitas. Rachael gave him an out, but Malcolm happily stayed, saying, “Sure, I want some good food.”He met everyone on DAY ONE, survived it all, and somehow still wanted a second date. We officially started dating on September 16, 2022, and less than a year later, we packed up our lives and moved to Washington State for Malcolm’s job at Blue Origin. On September 21, 2024, Malcolm proposed during a family walk at Discovery Park with Cub, choosing a moment that meant so much to us — right as we stopped to take a family photo. From a beer line at a Purdue football game to forever, the rest is history. 💛🚀
