Lucy and Rachael met in line for the bathroom (yes, really) on the first day of medical school at the University of Maryland. When COVID hit and they both found themselves in Baltimore for the summer with an unprecedented amount of free time, Lucy began subtly (or not so subtly) inviting Rachael over for dinner every night so she “wouldn’t get lonely.” By the time summer wound down and they logged onto Zoom for their second year of (virtual) medical school, they had fallen in love. From humbling experiences stumbling around the hospital for the first time, to anxiously (but ultimately triumphantly) navigating the couples match for residency, to embarking on a 7-week trip across Southeast Asia (public transportation in a foreign country is the true test of a relationship), they finished medical school and moved across Baltimore with their cat, Toast, to start residency. Rachael began working approximately one million hours per week in general surgery, and Lucy began working not quite one million hours but still a lot of hours in pediatrics. After Rachael convinced Lucy she wasn’t “too young” to get engaged (she was 30 years old), they bought TWO diamond rings (but also got two proposals out of it – worth it!!) and got engaged – first in the Baltimore sculpture garden, and then again in the French Alps. Their family has now grown with the addition of a new puppy, Lily (she swears she’ll be out of her chewing phase by the wedding). We cannot wait to host you in Baltimore to celebrate our love in our favorite city!
