We met at a bar called Rail. It recently won Best Dive Bar, so it's no place short of being romantic. Kyle was at the end of the bar eating peanuts when I noticed him. I instantly recognized him because we went to high school together. He was a senior when I was only a freshman, and I had always thought he was so cute. I had enough liquid courage in me to go say hello and when I did, I called him by the wrong name! I called him Kevin, which was his older brother and one of my former teachers. We spent the rest of that night getting to know each other, laughing, dancing, and having a good time. Kyle claims that he knew immediately that night that we would be together. Guess he was right.
We were both on winter break from work. We had made plans to go walk around downtown and do brunch at Huey's. Kyle went over to his parent's house beforehand to "help in the garden," but really he was picking up the ring. We parked downtown at Kyle's old apt on Gaston St. It is about a mile walk to River Street. Kyle had us walking all over downtown trying to find the perfect spot to pop the question. Finally, we got to The Waving Girl. Kyle grabbed both of my hands and asked the simple question of, "if you could write the perfect ending to 2020, what would it be?" He got down on one knee and said, "the perfect ending would be us. Will you marry me?"
