Change of plans

03.10.2020

Dear Family and Friends, We couldn't wait to tie the knot and so we finally did it! We happily and quietly exchanged our wedding vows on the 3rd of October in 2020. It was an intimate celebration we shared with our parents and siblings. We are grateful for your unwavering love and support that brought us here today. We cannot wait to party with you as the new Mr. and Mrs. Ward on October 29, 2021

HOW WE MET

12.18.2016

On December 16 2016, we found each other in the strangest of places, an online dating application. We soon exchanged numbers and were chatting. Quynh Anh had just moved to Philadelphia, and told me she was going shopping at the mall. Since she lived in Philly, I figured she may be going to the Cherry Hill Mall. I asked if she said Cherry Hill - BINGO. So, after a 12 hour day of work, I decided I would go to the mall, hopefully bump into Quynh Anh, and if not I could do some shopping. I asked her which store she was in, and then went store to store, without letting her know I was actually in the mall. I finally walked out of a NY&CO spotted her against a pillar, smiling and texting. I was blown away instantly! Long wavy hair, tall brown boots, and a red lipstick I knew I wouldn't waste the opportunity to take her out. I walked up to her and greeted her in Vietnamese. She greeted me with her one of a kind smile and I immediately asked her to go out for dinner, however she was with her Aunt- who then came over and introduced herself.. Her aunt agreed I could take her out, but only under the condition that we would be joined by Quynh Anh's Aunt, Uncle and Cousin. We went out for Korean food in Philadelphia and had a great time. We went out a few days later on 12/23 to a Mexican restaurant. Quynh Anh had never had Mexican food, or Margaritas. I learned a valuable lesson that night as she was unable to hold her alcohol for the ride home and dressed me and my car with a lovely Christmas decor. She thought we'd likely never see each other again, but on 12/31, I asked her to join me in New York City for a show, and she agreed.. From that point on, we were inseparable.

THE PROPOSAL

12.31.2018

I knew New York was the place, and I knew New Year's Eve was the date as it symbolized our first real experience together. I'd spent months searching for rings, and eventually closed a deal mid-December (just in time) after returning from a month long work trip, and buying our first home a few days earlier. My planning team was strong, my cousin Kevin was the cameraman, and my Mom was the true decoy. On the day of, the weather was horrible. It poured rain all day. I wanted to push the moment back but was urged to stick to my plan. My mom, a creative genius in her own respect, wore a red scarf and it had a small pocket in it- just big enough to fit a jewelry box in. She wore it throughout the whole day. We hopped around the city for a while going to various restaurants before making it back to Manhattan. We eventually linked up with my friends Dave, Mike, and Cara. We stopped into a bar, Malachy's to grab a drink. I kept telling Quynh Anh, "I know it's raining, but I'd like to show Kevin Central Park!" So we walked a few blocks down to the park, in the pouring rain. The pouring rain in New York City was a blessing, there was nobody around. We arrived at the Imagine Mosaic in Strawberry Fields, and I said to my mom "Can I have your scarf?" I put it on Quynh Anh, even though she already had one and she was saying "Why are you taking your mom's scarf!?" Only a few seconds later, she realized something was in the scarf. I got down on one knee in the pouring rain, forgot almost everything I'd planned to say, and asked Quynh Anh to marry me and she said yes!
