Gotta love good 'ol dating apps! Hinge, to be exact. Jacob had moved up to Boston from Roanoke, Virginia for work and they happened to swipe right on each other. For their first date, On December 3, 2019, Victoria went over to his house and they decided to watch Christmas movies. They watched The Grinch (Jim Carrey version, obviously) & Elf and talked the night away. COVID happened and Jake moved back down to VA, and they decided to give the whole long distance thing a shot. Frequently flying to see each other. To fly down to Roanoke, VA there are no direct flights. Flying was never her favorite to begin with, but then adding layovers and having to fly alone was very much out of her comfort zone. One flight down to visit Jacob, she landed in Charlotte, NC for her layover when she learned that the connecting flight to Roanoke was canceled due to inclement weather and they were unable to provide another flight until the morning. Calling Jacob in sheer panic, she didn't know what to do. He didn't hesitate at all and jumped into his car and drove 3 hours, in torrential down pour, to get her; he wasn't having her stay there overnight. From that day on, they knew they needed to be together forever! Jacob moved up to Massachusetts and the rest is history!
For the whole month of December Jake had made jokes of proposing. We would be out on a date and he would joke it would happen. Or he would say "Oh don't you want to check your stocking to see if something is in it?" It was 3 days after Christmas and we were taking down all of the decorations because we were about to go away to visit Jake's family in Virginia. It was 11pm and we were finally breaking down the tree (yes, we have a fake tree). Jake had asked me about a billion and one times if I could unplug the tree, which I found quite annoying as he could easily have done it himself. Finally, on the billion and 2nd ask I reluctantly went to do so and when I looked down I saw the ring box. Shocked, I opened the box and IT WAS EMPTY. I whipped around to ream him a new one for such a cruel joke and there he was, on one knee right behind me with the ring in his hand & tears in his eyes. In my nightgown, hair all frizzy in the messiest bun, I said yes to marrying my best friend!
