Our Story

In summer 2016, Josh was tweeting about Taylor Swift. Sarah happened to see them, and she liked Josh’s profile picture, so she replied. After a few tweets back and forth, Josh added Sarah on Twitter. Less than two weeks later, he slid into her DMs. Sarah has always been deeply interested in politics and current events, and Josh spent college and his adult life working in politics (including on a presidential campaign in 2016). Throughout fall 2016, Sarah often picked Josh’s brain about the 2016 election and politics in general. When Sarah and another New Yorker friend found out Josh had never been to NYC, the two recommended Josh visit during the holidays, which is Sarah’s favorite time of the year. Josh and Sarah officially met in person that December for what Sarah thought it was a friendly visit to show a tourist around New York and to talk shop in person. However, Josh had every intention of sweeping Sarah off her feet – which he succeeded in doing, because just five months later, Josh moved from Texas to New York. After receiving Sarah's parents' blessing (not permission!) in spring 2018, Josh began to plan the proposal. As a hopeless romantic, he wanted to propose in Paris. He found his opening when Sarah suggested visiting DC in August 2018, since it meant she could pack her own bags without being tipped off. Then, rather than traveling to DC, we flew to Paris instead. At that point, Sarah knew Josh planned to propose, as we had extensively discussed marriage, but she didn’t know when or how. While walking around Paris with the Eiffel Tower in view, Sarah thought *everything* that happened was some part of the plan, from someone distracting her on the street to a street photographer offering to take our photo. Later on the walk to dinner, Josh took Sarah's phone from her hands (typical) and got on one knee. After Sarah said yes, a bottle of champagne was popped overlooking the Eiffel Tower. We are so excited to spend the rest of our lives together!
