How We Met

4.27.14

Quan and I met in high school (shout out to Coach Stephens for playing match maker). Sometime in 2013, we went on a field trip to Benedict College. At the time, Quan was a junior and I was a freshman (the only freshman on the trip). I sat at the very front of the bus alone and annoyed I had no one to talk to. As the group made its way through the campus, I wandered off. As I looked for a familiar face, Quan was the first one I ran into and my day got a little brighter. I was so nervous to be talking to a handsome upperclassmen but I knew I couldn't let him see me sweat. We began conversing about God knows what and that was the start of our friendship. Little did we know, God was orchestrating the beginning of our beautiful love story. On April 27th, 2014, we made it official and became inseparable. Even as teenagers, we knew we shared something special. While we had no idea then, the Lord was uniting two who would vow to become one on September 26, 2021!

Long Distance Love

08.20.2015

In August of 2015, I left to attend Southern Wesleyan University putting 2 hours of distance between us (Makayla boohoo'd like a baby). We knew a long distance relationship would be difficult but we were committed to the growth of our romantic relationship and our lifelong friendship. It's true what they say, "distance makes the heart grow fonder". Sometimes, we would go months without seeing one another but when we would it was as if nothing else in the world mattered. In August of 2017, Makayla left to attend Howard University putting 8 hours of distance between us. Suddenly, those 2 hours felt like minutes in comparison to the 8 hours but God helped us transition. We were in constant communication over the phone (thank God for technology) and saw each other when we could. In those five years of distance, God deepened our bond and grew us in communication and intentionality that I'm sure will be useful tools in our marriage.
