We get this question a lot and it is always met with a brief pause because when we tell it together we look at each other and say Cuba! The reaction is always met with, tell me more or how did that happened? The truth is the meeting place was like any other. We were both planning to go to Cuba after the travel ban was lifted. My friend Kineta and I bought our plane ticket impulsively. Kineta who is the common denominator met my finance in Brazil sometime ago. Felipe and his friend Scott were also going to Cuba. So Kineta and Felipe planned our date. When we met I spent most of my time talking to his friend Scott, while I noticed Felipe eyeing me zealously. If he were to tell the story he might say I was eyeing him zealously. We spent the remainder of that evening walking the streets of Havana while trying to decide where we should get drinks and dinner. We found a spot, listened to music and said goodnight. Eventually, we returned home. I went back to New York and he went back to North Carolina. Felipe will later capture my heart via Facebook messenger when he told me he was a male gigolo. I loved his smile and sense of humor, but if we wanted to plan for a date it would require a plane ticket. Our first date happened in New York City after I picked him up from the airport in Queens. I was so nervous because it was our first time seeing one another since Cuba. The date was a success and I made the trip to North Carolina. Dating was fun, even though it was long distance. Every time we saw one another it was like a honeymoon considering we would only spend time together a few times in the year. As with any long distance relationship we knew that in order for us to see the relationship grow we had to make serious changes. Fast forward, I packed up my apartment in New York City and committed to the move, Felipe proposed and I said I do.
