We're getting married!

We met on May 8th, 2014, almost 8 years ago! It was “Spring Fling” at the college both of us went to. A massive block party with food, music, dancing and lots of people celebrating the New York City weather getting warmer. So naturally, we both happened to be in a dimly lit bar around the corner. We were on two ends of the bar, separately enjoying drinks and the company of our friends. Jhave finally noticed a person that looked like a photo of someone she’d seen. Filled with three long island ice tea’s worth of liquid courage, Jhave made her way across to Kevin and asked him for his name. After a quick introduction and a selfie, Jhave and Kevin, for the first time, crossed paths. Those paths stayed crossed until December 3rd, 2014. We were both serendipitously fresh out of long-term relationships and were looking to spend some time with each other with a friendly date. That friendly date made us realize that there was definitely a spark between us, a spark that is still with us to this day.

Early on in their relationship, since he was living with Jhave in Brooklyn, Kevin knew that he was going to propose to her one day. He just didn’t know when. With them moving to DC, getting new jobs, losing a dog, getting a new one, then going through a pandemic, the timing just never seemed right. In 2020, after being together for six years, Kevin knew that it was time. In June of that year, he finally got the ring. All he had to do now was wait for the right time to propose. So, he hid the ring in the office, unbeknownst to Jhave, and waited for the perfect moment. Not long after getting the ring, Jhave and Kevin were planning a camping trip. It was just going to be the two of them and Dasha. Kevin knew that the perfect moment would be then. So off they went to camp in the middle of nowhere. The trip started off pretty standard: relaxing by the fire, listening to music, enjoying nature. Jhave however couldn’t help noticing that Kevin wasn’t himself. Which was true, as he was trying to figure out how to pop the question. At one point, Jhave suggested they take a photo together. To do so, Kevin offered to use a phone stand that’s in the car, and take pictures on a timer. A phone stand that’s right next to the ring he’d kept hidden for months. Taking the stand and pocketing the ring, he went to go set up the camera. After a few pictures of the three of them, Kevin asked to take one without Dasha. Jhave was confused about the request but agreed. So, he tied up the dog, set the camera to record video, and walked back to Jhave. He pretended that the camera is taking some more pictures, and then got down on one knee. “Jhave, you make me the happiest person in the world. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" Jhave couldn't believe what she was hearing. She thought it was a joke. After seeing the ring, she knew that this was the real moment. On Thursday, August 27th, Jhave accepted Kevin's proposal, and the two finally got engaged.
