At the time, Mike was a coworker of Lizzy's close friend Rachel Haney at Chicago Gyros. One day Lizzy walked in to visit Rachel at work and Michael saw them talking. He claims that he saw her and afterwards had asked Rachel "What's the deal with your friend?" but a few days later when Rachel invited Lizzy out for drinks with her coworkers, they finally got the chance to meet. They met on the back patio of Mac's Pizza Pub, Lizzy thought he was a total babe, and the rest is history.
