Micah was working a temporary job as a carpenter in the theater department at Rollins College, where he had just graduated with a degree in psychology, and I (Rachael) was still a student there majoring in technical theater. We became friends, but after I graduated in 2014 we largely lost touch, only exchanging a text every now and then. In 2015 Micah's job sent him to Connecticut, where I was living at the time. He reached out to me to see if we could hang out while he was there, and I dropped everything to do so. The rest is history...
We had known for a while that we wanted to get married, but finances and COVID were really holding us back. Finally, after thinking and overthinking it, Micah proposed in our living room with a ring shaped like a whale shark (an inside joke).
Okay, so as most of you probably already know, we are actually already married. For the same reasons as above, we got married very simply on our own timeline. We flew up to Vermont, hiked to the top of Burnt Rock mountain, and said our vows at the summit. The ceremony was performed by a childhood friend of mine with only five other adults, two children, and one dog present. I hiked back down in my dress, barefoot.
Now, with COVID mostly in the rearview and a bit more disposable income, we are thrilled to celebrate our union with those we love. We will take the opportunity to reaffirm our vows and appreciate what the first two years of marriage have brought us, then we will party it up like it's only day one!
