How We Met

2.14.12

Jacquelyn and Pu first met through their jobs at S2 Games. Each being competitive, the two quickly crossed swords in various video games, board games, card games - you name it! It wasn't long before a wager was placed. Sitting across from one another at their work desks, Jacquelyn and Pu went head to head in a classic match of Counter-Strike. The prize? Jacquelyn wanted bragging rights, while Pu wanted a a first date. The match was, naturally, won by Pu and the pair went out for a nice dinner date on Valentine's Day at Food Dance in Kalamazoo.

The Proposal

7.12.17

Pu asked Jacquelyn's father for his blessing in December, 2016 and immediately began work on a custom engagement ring. Unfortunately, the ring was not completed until late April, 2017 and Jacquelyn's parents were left wondering whether the proposal was ever going to come. Pu and Jacquelyn planned a trip to Vancouver to attend James Godish and Alexandra Burgin's wedding in July, and Pu thought Vancouver would offer a beautiful natural backdrop for the proposal. So, the wait grew even longer. July finally came, and the couple went for a walk in Stanley Park in Vancouver. Pu and Jacquelyn walked east along the Vancouver Seawall of Stanley Park, which looks into the Vancouver Harbour. However, the harbour was in low tide and looked like utter trash. Pu began to grow anxious, because walking is an awful, tedious activity that only becomes worse the longer it persists. Finally, after walking for about 5 kilometers, Pu and Jacquelyn turned the corner at the Lions Gate Bridge and were met with a breathtaking view of the English Bay. Pu grabbed a passing lovely, well-aged couple and asked them to take some pictures of him and Jacki. A few shots in, Pu fished the ring out of his tiny inner jean pocket (who uses those things, anyway?) and popped the question. The couple taking Pu and Jacki's pictures were surprised, but Jacki was downright shocked. She didn't say "yes," but at least she didn't say "no." Jacquelyn's first words of response were "Wait, really? This is happening? Me?" As if it could've ever been anyone else. After a smothering hug and an eventual "yes," Pu reminded Jacki that he still needed to put the ring on her finger (he has it on good authority that you're supposed to put a ring on things that you like). The remaining 5 kilometers around Stanley Park passed by in a breeze...
