They met by a sheer miracle—though some might say it was more like divine matchmaking via Google search. Shannon needed someone to speak to her class about math and its applications in the real world. While searching for engineering firms in the area, she came across Clearpoint Engineers. Clearpoint said they had just the person and sent Price. The moment Price saw her, he thought to himself, Goodness, she has the prettiest smile. He may also have briefly forgotten what math was. Price not only showed up—he delivered. His talk wowed Shannon’s students, who left feeling like math might actually be cooler than TikTok, and most of all, it impressed Shannon. After the presentation, he returned to the office, still smiling like someone who had just met their soulmate. Later that day, Shannon came by the Clearpoint office to drop off thank-you notes from her and her students, but Price was out on a job site. When he returned and learned about the notes, he was overjoyed. To this day, he still keeps them in his desk because it reminds him of how they first met. (And because it was proof that someone appreciated his math talk.) Price later got Shannon’s number from the front desk and called to thank her for the notes. She hoped it was Price when a 601 area code popped up on her phone. What Shannon didn’t guess was he was calling to ask her on a date.
